The heart sensor should be worn on your child’s non-dominant arm, either on the bicep (upper arm) just above the elbow or on the forearm (lower arm) near the elbow. It should never be worn on the wrist.
Ensure the heart sensor fits snugly, but not too tight. It should be secure enough that no light escapes from the sides, but not so tight that it causes discomfort.
Some children have sensitivities to certain textures or touch. If this applies, here are a few tips that might help:
- Getting used to something new can be difficult. If your child is hesitant about wearing the heart sensor, try introducing it gradually. You can wear it yourself first, then have your child hold it and reassure them that it won’t hurt. Gradually increase the time your child wears the heart sensor, either with or without playing, to help them get used to it.
- Your child can also wear the heart sensor on their leg, placed on the back of the calf near the bend of the knee. Make sure it fits snugly (you may need to adjust the band). This placement can be helpful as it keeps the sensor out of sight while your child is playing.
- Some children may not like the texture of the heart sensor. If that’s the case, families have found it helpful to place a sleeve, old shirt, or preferred fabric around the band. Any cover is fine, as long as the monitor (with the flashing lights) is in direct contact with your child’s skin without any fabric in between.
- If your child does not like the texture of the blue case that the Mightier tablet comes in, it is okay to take the case off and play without it. Have your child sit in a safe place where the tablet is less likely to be dropped or accidentally broken.
- Sometimes, sound and music can be difficult for children to manage. You can turn off the music and sound while playing Mightier using the volume arrows on the right-hand side of the tablet.
